Let’s talk about free stock photo websites and how you can use them to access high quality, professional photos for your website, blog, or social media posts.
Whether you run a business or have a personal brand, a great to stand out from your competitors is through visual appeal. By using stunning, professional photos in your marketing materials you’ll make an impression on your audience and it will help them to remember you and your brand.
On the other hand, if you don’t use professional photos in your content that represents your brand, then your website visitors and social media followers will eventually lose interest, which is especially true with younger generations, such as millennials.
So if you want access to professional, high quality photos to use on your website or social media accounts then bookmark this page now. Below you’ll find a list of 10 free stock photo websites.
All of the images are absolutely free, there’s no catch or gimmick. However, I do strongly recommend that you review the policies on each site before downloading any images so that you can better understand how you’re allowed to use the photos, and whether or not the photographers require any attribution or credits.
Without further ado, here’s the list of free stock photo websites:
1) Unsplash
This site has tons of free high-resolution photos available for to use for free for commercial or noncommercial purposes. You don’t even need to ask permission or provide credits to the photographers or Unsplash (of course, they always appreciate it when you do).
2) Death to the Stock Photo
This website is a bit different than most stock photo sites. Rather than giving you access to browse their entire library of stock photos, they send you free photos each and every month via email, which you can then pick and choose from if they match your criteria.
3) Picjumbo
Picjumbo has a mix of both free and premium stock photos, but the premium ones are easily identifiable by the icons in the corner of the photos. The site allows you to browse through a wide variety of different photo categories to find the photo to best match your project.
4) Pexels
Pexels is another great site, similar to Unsplash, that gives you full rights to use the photos on their site completely free and for any legal purpose. Additionally, they don’t even require you to request permission to use the photos nor do you have to attribute credit to the photographers.
5) StockSnap
Much like Unsplash and Pexels, you can use the photos on this site for any project absolutely free with no limitations. StockSnap has a wide selection of photos and categories to select from, with thousands of photos available for you to download and use however you’d like.
6) Pixabay
Pixabay has over one million free stock photos, vector graphics,
and art illustrations that you can use anywhere, any way you’d like. The photos on their website are very high quality, making Pixabay a great alternative to paid stock photo websites like iStockPhoto.
7) Gratisography
This site has a unique approach to stock photography. Whereas most websites curate a collection of photos from different photographers, all the pictures on Gratisography were taken by Ryan McGuire, which he’s made completely free with zero copyright restrictions. His photos are all quite unique, many of which have fun, playful, or bizarre styles and content.
8) Jay Mantri
Here’s another stock photo website created by a single photographer, Jay Mantri, who has made his photos free to use however you’d like without any legal restrictions. Many of his photos are focused on the subject matters of landscapes and architecture, which would make great background photos behind text or other graphics.
9) ISO Republic
With hundreds of pages of free stock photos, and nearly a dozen categories to choose from, ISO Republic is a great resource for professional images that you can use however you see fit. They do have premium photos available for purchase, however, most of the free photos on their website are very unique and professional.
10) Refe
All the photos in the “free” category on this site are fair game for you to download and use at no cost. If you wander away from this category be advised that the images in all the other categories are premium photos that you’d have to pay to use, however, there’s plenty to choose from for free.
There you have it! Now, if you ever need images to use for your blog, website, or social media posts, you should be able to find just about anything you’re looking for from the list of free stock photo websites above.
Of course, depending on what you’re looking for it may end up taking a lot of time to find the right image for free. Sometimes you might be able to save time by simply paying for premium photos.
Finding the right photos can sometimes be a tradeoff between saving time or saving money. It’s entirely up to you depending on whether you’re up against a tight budget or short deadline.
